My Dollar Tree Birdies

I was so excited when I saw that the CSI Challenge this week is to make something from The Dollar Store.

Crystal and I got some of these birds from The Dollar Tree.

I thought  Crystal might be a little hesitant (I have the best daughter!) to buy these birds, but she was totally on board. So we each bought two and it was time to get crafting...

We painted the birds silver, using left over paint Crystal had. Really you could paint them with any kind of paint you have on hand.

Then after the paint dried, we sprayed on the leafing adhesive and added the leafing. This is a somewhat sticky process but definitely not difficult and doesn't take much time. We had all the supplies on hand from a gilding project we did last fall....

It looks best if you don't cover everything....

And here's Crystal's bird (Crystal is the blonde in the picute, isn't she beautiful?)

  5. Those look great! I used to do gold leafing but hadn't thought of it in years. The silver is so popular too, looks like they came from an expensive store.
