Hello fabulous Cherished Treasures readers!!

I am so, so, excited you have the chance to chat with you guys today!!

It's like being the guest on Oprah- you feel so special just to be asked to be on the show!

I write a DIY blog- where mostly I share the home decor and craft projects I've whipped up.

I had a little project in the back of my mind for awhile right now- and since I'm currently

working on a never ending reupholstery project- this was a perfect excuse to see a

small project from start to finish.




I saw this super, duper cute pillow from darling Aimee at Twigg Studios and I knew I had to make my own! Well, I love most of the pillows she makes- but since  I don't sew, this was the only one I thought I could make! Haha!



I made a no-sew pillow using a down pillow that had seen better days and this no-sew pillow tut from the hilarious Cassie at Hi Sugarplum. Since it's basically ironing and cutting, even I could handle it!! The key was the Peel n Stick fabric fuse. It works like a charm and made the pillow so easy to make!



For the cute little ruffles I followed Aimee's tutorial. Just cut strips of cream flannel,
which incidentally I had on hand - lucky coincidence. Then I wrote out the union jack
pattern with chalk {just like she said to.}



Then I went rogue!! Aimee stitched her ruffles on and I {had to} use a glue gun to attach the mine.  I am crazy amazed at how awesome the glue is holding. I wanted to move one of the ruffles over and you couldn't get it off if you tried. Well actually, I mean, I did try and it wouldn't budge!






Isn't the pillow charming!? I think it makes the perfect textural addition to the little sitting area in my bedroom. I love how burlap adds an earthy feeling, grounding my silk curtain panels.



I'm sure this new addition will make the 5 whole minutes I get to sit down there and read that much more enjoyable!!

Birthday Gift Wrapping Ideas

Generally, we all have seen that people always pay much attention on selecting the

gift items whether it’s small or large items. But a simple modification in presenting your

gift with the creative ideas of gift wraps adds more fun and excitement to the occasion.

No person can imagine that a simple birthday gift wrap can make your present look

unique and special among all other gifts.

You can also add personalize touch in designing the gift wrap according to

your liking and taste. Choosing the paper, pattern, color or design and the way you

present it, matters a lot when you give a gift to someone. Choosing a gift and carefully

wrapping it will show your concern and love for the person. If you are the lover of

eco-friendly ideas then recycled birthday gift wrapping paper can be ornamented with

natural items like flowers, branches, beans, pearls, shells or disposable leaves to make

you gift look extremely beautiful. No doubt, it will take time, effort and practice to

perfectly wrap the presents buy all these efforts are worth it.

Different themes or ideas can be used for different age-groups and relations.

A well wrapped and ornamented gift stands out amongst a huge pile of gifts and looks

and feels special to the receiver. The decorative gift wraps can be made more

order you do not need to be crafting it all by yourself.

Make cute paper flowers and use on gift wrapping..

A good combination of gift wrapping paper and ribbon can be look fabulous!!

Feathers can make it elegant and a unique gift presentation...

 

Use paint chips and make it beautiful!!

Who knew that a simple craft paper/cardstock with holes can look so stunning!!

Buttons and bakers twine...simple yet so fun to put together...

Guest Post - The Cottage Market

Hi everyone, my name is Andrea from The Cottage Market.  I am honored to be guest posting today for my dear bloggy friend Terry!  Today we are going make a simple 

Bunting Frame!

I will give you the basics and then you can create from all the little treasures you have in your stash (you know you have one : ) It's a versatile little creation that I am sure you will enjoy.  The most fun is that you make it your own by putting your creative spin to it!

Here's our Bunting Frame...

 What will we need?

Start with a plain frame or you can use and old frame...the choice is yours! You will also need some scraps of material...thread and needle and some embellishments.

I then gave the frame a few coats of white paint...Allowed it to dry and then sanded it and shabbied up a bit on the edges!  SOOOOOO easy...then I put a flat varnish over it.

Now you take your favorite fabrics and cut the size triangles that you will need to fit the frame you are working with and then simply thread your needle (I used a coat thread for durability) and do a simple stitch connecting the triangles...I found that I liked them close together...continue till you have the bunting the width that you need.

When you have the length you want...

Simply glue your favorite embellishments between each little flag or leave plain if you would like!  The possibilities are endless...little buttons...stars...rhinestones and so on and so on!

Now Simply add your bunting to your favorite frame...start by attaching it to the right corner (I use a little dab of hot glue...it works instantly and I love that!)...

Now continue to put little dabs of glue right where you want the bunting to fall...

If you would like...you can add a few little embellishments to the bottom...not necessary but fun!  I took 3 flowers and twisted them together to make a little bouquet...added a bow made from bakers twine and a flower and simply glued them to the wood...

and there you have it!  A pretty little bunting frame!  You have the basics and now you can let your creative juices run wild and create something perfect for someone special or your own home...I just hope you enjoy and CREATE!!!!

Guest Post - The Scrap Shoppe

Hello, Cherished Treasures readers!

I'm Michele, and I create at The Scrap Shoppe. 

I'm really excited to be here to share a fun project that has been ages in the making.
I have a terrible tendency to pick up/plan projects and leave them sitting around for literally years. Isn't that awful? This little project I have had in mind to make for at least 2 years, and I'm happy to see it finally complete!

I found this fabulous wooden HOME banner in a kit from Adorn-It at a scrapbook convention. 

The kit came with great directions on what papers to purchase to match the colorful design they show above, but it creates at least 2 problems for me.

First, as much as I love the bright color combo above, that won't fit anywhere in my house!

And 2, I have a slight banner addiction. I try to keep them holiday-related so I can rotate them around, so a banner that is up all year round could take up valuable other-banner space. ;)

I knew where I wanted my non-banner to go so I gathered some papers that would match my black and white kitchen. I fell in love with the Union Square collection from My Mind's Eye!

I traced the letters on the paper, cut them out, then used Mod Podge to attach the two together. I made sure to sand the edges so they were nice and clean.

The kit also came with some lovely little shape embellishments. I knew I wanted to decorate my letters with them somehow, so I traced, cut, and Mod Podged a couple of those also.

At this point I also decided to go back and ink all of my edges with black ink.

I used various shapes from the kit and other embellishments from my stash to decorate each letter. And to make it even more "homey", I found a chipboard house and tree in my stash and covered them with more scrapbook paper.

Since I knew I didn't want another banner, I layered the letters in front and behind one another and glued them in place. Now instead of a hanging banner I have a fun sign to sit on a shelf!

My black hutch is my pride and joy in my eat-in kitchen. 

And I think the HOME sign is the perfect addition to it! 

(By the way, did you notice my chalkboard banner up there? I might have had to take that beauty down to hang the HOME sign! Now they can both be on display.) ;)

And another project to mark off of my to do list!
