What I'm Reading

It's been awhile since I've talked about some books that I've read recently.

For my birthday last year, DH got me a Nook and I love it...

I read from it practically everyday...

it's kept in my purse for no matter where I am, I can pull it out and start reading..

I just finished reading this book, a nice read about eleven girls that stayed best friends into their adult years...

I've read every book by Debbie Macomber and this book centered around three women taking a road trip across the US...the ex-mother-in-law, mom and her daughter...

another great book for your summer reading..

My great friend, Jen recommended this author, Jennifer Chiaverini writes about women, friendship and quilting..I tend to be drawn to books about women and the relationships that they have with each other..

I might get sidetracked and read the latest book by Mary Kay Andrews..

if you've never read her books, she write about women, thrift shopping and restyling old finds ...

I tried to take a close up picture of my Nook but it came out pretty blurry..

One of my all time favorite bookstores, Barnes and Noble is on Facebook and this week they hosted a live chat with Debbie Macomber (my favorite author)!

And there were lots of women asking questions being asked. I couldn't believe that she answered a couple of my questions!

Blogging for Bliss - Happy Loves Rosie

Have you gotten a copy of Blogging for Bliss yet? I spent last night looking at the blogs highlighted in the book. They were really good with lots of suggestions on how to improve your blog.

I found a blog from London that is so many fun pictures of vintage items - Happy and Rosie. If you like blogs about crafts, decorating, family, friends and life experiences - you'll want to check out this one.

A blog that she follows is Sugar & Meringue. She's a cookie baker and makes the most beautiful cookies. I best not let her see the cookies I made this weekend. I tried to create brown frosting and it ended up looking like poo - and I still used it!

The author of this book, Tara Frey, has a blog that is pretty amazing, called Typing Out Loud.
What a catchy title and her biography is so romantic...

Stay at Savannah Breeze

This weekend, I was lucky enough to find the book, Savannah Blues by Mary Kay Andrews at Goodwill and since it's soft cover - I got it for $.50!

On Mary Kay's blogroll, I noticed that there really is a Breeze Inn Cottage! Check out the cottage that inspired the book, Savannah Breeze.


You can rent it by the week and bring pets - sadly it's a little bit more than my budget can afford.







But a girl can dream....

Having a Hissy Fit

I just finished reading "Hissy Fit" by Mary Kay Andrews and this might be one of my favorite reads other than "Savannah Blues."

Here's a part that made me laugh:

"I think I saw some bottled water in the house," I volunteered. "I'll just run and get it for Steffie before I take off."

"You're leaving?" Will asked, his voice sounding hopeful. Maybe the evening could still be salvaged, he probably thought. Right after his bride-to-be polished off a big plate of chives and romaine lettuce leaves.

In the kitchen, I opened the pantry and found the bottled water I'd left for him on Monday, right beside the Scotch bottle. It was just Poland Spring, the cheapest they'd had at the store that day. I took the bottle, and went into the bathroom, closing the door carefully behind me. I unscrewed the cap on the water bottle and happily poured the water down the drain. Then I knelt beside the commode and submerged the water bottle in the bowl. It glugged and glugged until it was full.

I placed the bottled water at Stephanie's place and blew them both a big kiss. "Bon appetit, y'all"

Have you read any books by Mary Kay Andrews? The one bad thing about liking her books, is she doesn't write them fast enough!

The World's Best Golf Courses

On Saturday I found this book at Goodwill called "The World's Best Golf Courses." I've never golfed in my life, okay maybe miniature golf. I'm not even sure, is it about the same thing? Just on a bigger scale?

But that doesn't mean that I don't love to look at the courses and envy how green the grass is or how difficult it must be to get from one hole to the next. So I thought I'd share some of the pictures...


Maui - What a great place to golf - the scenery is magnificent!

Palm Springs -I wonder if celebrities frequent here?

Phoenix-Scottsdale -I would imagine it's darn hot golfing here!

Peachtree GA - the trees are so thick and beautiful.

Mrytle Beach - the water is so blue.

Jacksonville FL - If I golfed here, my balls would go in the water everytime.

Philadelphia PA - unbelievable how a golf course can have so much land in a big city!

Long Island - how awesome is this? Completely surrounded by water.

If my son-in-law could golf all day everyday, I'm pretty confident that he would. He plays in quite a few golf tournaments and is an excellant golfer. I got this book for him, I'm sure he'll be dreaming of visiting each one of these courses..

Savannah Breeze anyone?

As I indicated in my last post, the books picked for the Oprah Book Club make me feel inferior when I read them. I don't get them and I find them boring and easily lose interest.

While reading many blogs, I heard about Mary Kay Andrews, an author of several books about women and thrifting. I'm intrigued by any fiction book that has thrifting in the storyline.


Right now I'm reading Savannah Breeze and it makes me want to open a (motel) inn and fill each room with my thrifting finds. If you haven't read this book, you simply must - especially if you love thrifting and romance...

I should be doing laundry or cleaning but I plan on reading until it's bedtime...

The cover on the book says this is a sequel to Savannah Blues and Hissy Fit. I've got them requested through the public library. Doesn't sound like I'm going to have anytime for thrifting, this book is GOOD! Could DH's prayer's be answered? Prob not!

I'm sure glad I have this book, Obama is on - boring! I'll leave it at that.

Oprah - Free Book to Download

I love to read but lately my reading has been limited to magazines that I can glimpse at while watching TV. One of the most relaxing things to do, is to sit down and read a book and be transported to another place.

I've never been able to understand the books that Oprah picks for her book club. Oprah's books make me feel inferior, I don't understand the book and quickly lose interest. It's like the movies that win an Oscar for best picture - I"ve gone to see a few but usually the movies are long, drawn out and uninteresting. Do you find that you feel the same way?

I found something that might work for me. Starting today, Oprah is offering a free book to download until Wednesday. "Heroic Measures" by Jill Ciment and this book has been identified at as 1 out of "25 Books You Can't Put Down."
