Kitchen - Day One

Day one in our project of painting the kitchen cabinet..and the day was spent prepping for the paint (laquer).

The very first thing done, was to set up a coffee bar in my office...and I forgot to set out my big coffee cup!

Then the next thing was to remove everything on top of the cabinet and on the counters and move out the appliances...

And rearrange to fit everything...

Cabinet doors and drawers were removed. Also removed were the hinges and handles - I decided that instead of spending money on new hardware, we'll just paint them and save lots of money.

Microwave all taped up and protected...

We covered the wall above and below with paper and plastic and LOTS of blue tape!

We left everything in the cabinets and sealed them up - this was very time consuming but we didn't want to deal with taking everything out and then putting everything back once completed.

We added this decorative applique to the face plate under the sink...I'm definitely not loving the cabinets now, could the woodgrain get any uglier?

Here's a better look at it, can't you just picture this all painted up in cream with brown glaze?

So yesterday was spent prepping... we've got a little more prepping to do and DH feels we'll have the kitchen primed, painted, glazed and sealed before the day is over.

Tommorrow we'll tackle the cupboard doors and hardware...

I can't wait to see the results. As always, the prep work takes the most time. That decal looks so pretty.
