Dish Towel & Potholder Tutorial

I pulled out my sewing machine last weekend.... and worked on a couple of projects....

Here's my old clunker...got it at an auction for $3 a few years ago and it works perfectly...
I was so excited to get a sewing machine and not spend a lot of money..
because I might sew a few times each year...
but how hard can sewing some straight lines be?

Let me show you what I started with for this project...
I went shopping for a kitchen towel and matching potholder...
and got this Paula Dean set...the teapots and colors are cute...

And then because I'm never happy to buy just one of anything...
I got this set in red...love the salt n pepper shakers....

I took the towel and folded in in half...
you'll want to put the right sides together
which is opposite of this picture but I wanted to show you
to fold the towel in half the width of the towel and not the length...

Now it's time to get sewing, no pins needed...
sew a line about an inch from the middle of the towel on the biggest stitch your machine can sew...
possibly a basting stitch? not sure but you get the idea, right?

Make sure to leave plenty of thread on each end of where you sew for gathering later on...

Then sew another line on the other side of the middle of the towel.....
pretty easy!

then start pulling on the threads to gather so that the towel is as
wide as the potholder....

then you'll want to match things up so that the middle of the potholder
is in the middle of the stiching you just did....

this time you'll want to change the setting to a smaller stitch and sew it all together....
remove your basting stiches...

add a fun button and use the loop on the potholder to hang in from your stove...

and here's the other one I made...
super cute and fun to make...

I also did another sewing project which I'm half way done with...
I'll show that off next week...

Not to bad from someone who knows doesn't know much about sewing...
LOL

May Altered Calendar Page

The month of May has just flown by, hasn't it?
Let me show you how the May calendar page looked like before I altered it...

The calendar was a kit I picked up at Michaels after Christmas on clearance...
now I could've just added a picture and call it good...
but I love to embellish things and this simply wouldn't do as it was...

This is how it really looked until this weekend...
I forgot about adding pictures and highlights from the month.....

We were lucky enough to spend lots of time with Macie this month and so there's lots of pictures of her...she loves my metal measuring spoons....and I got a special picture of my son Michael holding Macie too...

and of course more pictures of Macie playing with the measuring spoons...
she is growing up so fast...and I added some washi tape ....

I added several different colors of washi tape to highlight the rummage that we had....

Summer holidays tend to be patriotic and I wanted to add some red, white and blue things to the page..

It's hard to see, but the sticker on the 15th is a 6 - which means that Macie is now 6 months old...

And now the page for May is complete....

Thanks for stopping by...
On Tuesday I have a great giveaway, courtesy of Kiwi Lane that you won't want to miss...

My Layout Challenge from Colored Sprinkle Girl

If you've read my blog for any length of time, you know that I love You Tube!
One of my favorite You Tubers is Colored Sprinkle Girl.
Patty is offering Create A Kit Workshop for the entire month of June.
The price is very affordable and she'll show you how to use your stash and not spend money for
things you might never use again...

While the workshop doesn't officially start until next month,
Patty has presented a challenge to those already registered for the workshop...

Use a piece of paper that has been punched out with punches and create a layout...
let me show you my layout...

I pulled out a variety of papers with the focus to find a paper or two that had been punched out...
I used a picture I took of Storm last year at Christmas time..he was not an outside dog...
rather preferring to lay on our bed and look outside...so his trips outside were always
to get things done and get back inside...his face was priceless...

I added other paper to the back of the punch here and added a sentiment...

This proved to be a challenge for me because I'm use to adding flowes
or lace or girly things....but I wanted it to be simple....

On Patty's videos she uses letter stickers to make titles and
sentiments all the time and she inspired me to do this...
plus I used a punch out that probably wouldn't ever be used....

I'm so glad I took this picture of Storm....
this is a picture I will treasure.
Tears are still shed for him, you can read about Storm here

Part of the challenge was not to cut or alter the paper...
and the flower was large enough to use for the journaling plus it covered up some
of the missing paper....

It was fun to dig through my scraps and put this together...
I'll definitely be doing this again...

So stop on over and get signed up for the workshop that begins next week...
