Roadkill Rescue - Meta Monday - Today's Thrifty Treasures

Monday's have become one of my favorite days of the week. No, going to work would not be a reason for Monday becoming one of my favorite days. It's because there are a ton of posts to read from Metamorphis Monday and Today's Thrifty Treasures. And also this week, there's another party going on - Roadkill Rescue!

So I'm going to start with the Roadkill Rescue & Metamorphis Monday portion.

When my youngest daughter left for college, she left this frame outside of her room in the hallway on the floor. (code for "I don't want this, you can have it")

It was already white, so we were already off to a good start.

I got our my scrapbooking paper and found four different size circles and drew each circle many times over and over again. But instead of cutting them out , I tore around each circle. After I had them all tore out, I crinkled them all up and then flattened them out. Next I glued each layer together and then glued two coordinating buttons on.

And here it is finished!

Yesterday, I grabbed this bulletin board at Goodwill and spray painted it white.

I added big buttons to the scrapbook paper.

And here it is after! Pretty darn cute too!

Now it's time for Today's Thrifty Treasures!

Thankfully, Goodwill was good this weekend and good thing since the past two weekends weren't haven't been much.

Check out this shabby chic valet - $2!

My daugher works for Wells Fargo and here's a beach bag I got her - I'll use it if she doesn't want it.

Check out these two duck tureens - I now have five!

I'm collecting stools to stack and found three this weekend.

How cute is this snowman?

Today, DH found this one for me - isn't it adorable?

And he also found this one for me, a rocking stool!

And a trip to Goodwill usually results in some books coming home with me.
This is a heavy book with lots of information - can't beat the price of $1 for a hardcover!

I once read that "Joy of Cooking" is a must have cookbook and I found this today!

And this cookbook should be a come in handy once Christmas gets closer.

Last but no least - I bought a brand new TiVo at Goodwill today for $10! (Sorry - no picture - I forgot.)

I'm addicted to TiVo, you can fast forward through commercials and go back and play it again if you didn't understand what was said...(I'm sure there's a better way to describe this)

Life is good, except that Monday is back to work...

Free Desktop Calendar for you

Can you believe it's almost September? Where did the summer go? Kids are back in school, the nights are cooling down, it's getting darker earlier.

One of the easier things I need to do is to update the calendar on my computer desktop.

Check out some of this calendars, and best of all - they're free!

This one makes me want to go on vacation someplace very warm.

One of the best things about Fall, is when the leaves change color.

But this is the one I picked..love it!

American Greetings has several free desktop calendars not to mention other pictures for your computer or if you prefer - google "fee background calendars" and find one for your computer.

Show Us Your Roosters Party TIme

It's time for Show Us Your Roosters Party!

I only have one rooster, and I love it. I'm always looking for another one but it has to be white.

Be sure to stop over at Bella Vista for more Rooster love!

Side note: It's been a tough week at work, two of my employees were let go due to job elmination. One employee had been with the company for 25 years and the other would have been there for 13 years on Sunday. One employee was very professional and the other - not so professional.

Today's Thrifty Treasures

Another week has flown by and it's time for Today's Thrify Treasures.

Several blogs have been discussing using macrame to update household items to look like something from Ballards or Pottey Barn. I was so excited when I found these two spools at Goodwill today. Looks I've got a project on my hands now.

Picture is kind of blurry(too lazing to take another one) - glass spice container that I'm planning on storing sprinkles for Christmas cookies.(Much nicer looking than the plastic container they come in.) I'll need more but they only had this one.

DH loves to listen to audio books on his iPod so this was his great find today!

And this is cute Precious Moments music waterglobe.

I found this purse a couple of weeks ago - I've been wanting one just like this!

How did you do this weekend? Did you find lots of bargains? Make sure to visit Rhoda at Southern Hospitality for Today's Thrifty Treasures.

Shabby Chic on Design Star

I've watched every season of Design Star and love it when I hear the two magic words -"Shabby chic!"

On Design Star Three, Sara Evans was on to help the designers redesign two rooms at the Gaylord Opryland Resort.

I wonder the hotel still has these rooms available for guests?

50 Simple Ways to Pamper Your Cat - Week 3

Make Your Home Fit for a Cat

Your home is your cat castle and you are the servant and you probably didn't realize that you cater to your cat. You laugh now, but read through the list and see if you are a servant to your cat (or dog).

* Keep your closet doors open, because your cat likes to nap in there.

* Let the sink faucet drip lightly, so they can take a drink.

* Different sized kitty homes/beds in various rooms in your house.

* You've placed a cat bed in a tucked away area in a room so that they can seek refuge but still see what's going on.

* You open the blinds to allow sunshine in but mainly so your cat can look outside.

* Drape throw blankets or sheets over the sofa/recliner so that your cat can nap without leaving lots of cat hair behind.

* Have a garbage can with a lid to eliminate temptation of what's inside.

* Keep a toy chest for all your cat's play things.

Yikes - I'm doing all of these things...

Typical Frat House?

Yesterday, I talked about moving my daughter to college this weekend for her second year and all the beautiful dorm rooms that I dreamt of for her living in.

Well when my son moved into a frat house, his second year, I was speechless.. Okay maybe I got a little loud and okay maybe I embarassed my son...but look at this place - and see if you would be quiet.

Here's a shot of the kitchen, check out the stove. It was covered with grease and talk about filthy - where's the health dept?

And the dirty dishes - sitting there since school ended in May..gross.

Not sure what room this is called -but it smelled like a bar after New Years Eve.

And the carpets were worn, not to mention filthy and trash was everywhere.

Did I mention the the carpets were disgusting not to mention the other floors were really sticky?

I don't know if you can see how filthy the steps were.

Someone left all their belongings in thr house for the next year, but what about picking up before leaving?

Another area where someone cleaned out of a room so that they could move in.

Another hallway leading to more rooms - can you believe the trash?

I needed to use the bathroom and the floors were so sticky not to mention all of the porn magazines on the floor. The garbage can is the size that most people use for the garbage man and it was overflowing with empty beer cans....with plenty more on the floor.

It was very hard to leave my son at school, the window in his room was broke out so they had a piece of plywood up - can this be safe?

Several months later I actually got a call from the local fraternity asking for a donation....I hung up on them. Michael lived here for 2 years and then his senior year he moved into an apartment. Is partytime really that important?
