Monday - Thrify Treasures

Welcome to the first Thrify Treasures, hosted by Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. Every Monday we get to share our yardsale/thrify find from the weekend.

My daughter, Crystal and I went rummaging on Thursday for nearly seven hours and then out again on Friday for a couple of hours.

Crystal usually finds my buys before I even have a chance to check things out(my best rummage buddy ever - Jen - was always on the outlook for me - HI JEN!)

Here's some of my finds this weekend...

Cute notebook that I plan to use at work to take to meetings...

Green basket to add flowers for the family room..

Cute wooden bunny..

Same rummage, I found this cute birdhouse..

And also this white wood flower tile..

For Ashley- I got the A and the metal box to store her various teas...

I plan on putting this red star in the kitchen above the cabinets...

Crystal and I always talk about what our best find was - whether its rummaging or shopping in stores.

My best find this weekend has to be this coverlet! I plan on using to recover my cushions on the patio...that is if I can cut this up - it's in great shape and I think I paid $4!

But I've also got a project for next Saturday - I found this utensil organizer at Goodwill....looks brand new..

I have a drawer in the hutch that I store all the utensils that I don't use veryoften and some of them I can't part with..I really need to sort out and purge...

So I plan on getting that drawer straightened up and also find some more rummages and visit my friendly Goodwill store...only five more days until then..
Happy Monday!

Phone Scam Warning

My kids tease me that I go to be too early - we're usually in bed by 9:30 every night. Sunday night, we had just gone tobed and my cell phone rang. Normally I would jump out of bed and answer it.....okay DH would jump out of bed and get the cell phone. I was too tired to talk and we didn't get the phone. If it was one of the kids they would call the house if it was important or call the house phone which would ring into the bedroom. So we didn't answer it, we didn't get any other calls and feel asleep.

The news had an story about a new phone scam and while I listened to it, I didn't think much more of it.

"Police have a serious warning about an apparent phone scam targeting people. The calls are mostly coming in to cell phones but come from various area codes. Whoever is behind the calls appears to be after your banking information.

Caller ID is supposed to give you an idea of who is on the other end of the phone. But police believe the numbers showing up with these fishy phone calls are hijacked, meaning they're not really coming from that line."

In the morning I checked my cell phone and caller ID showed it as 908-654-1100 coming in at 9:51 pm. I learned at work that you can google a phone number to find out who the number belongs too - simply amazing. I googled the number and here's what I found out - click on this link: 908-654-1100

I'm glad that I didn't answer my phone, in fact - if I don't know who the number is, I usually won't answer my phone.

Just be careful - you never know what the next scam will be.

Metamorphis Monday - New Carpet

Life can be so busy - it's been almost one week since my last posting and the time has flown by. Not only has work been extra busy but the lease on my car is coming to an end, we're getting new carpet in our downstairs but most importantly - IT'S RUMMAGE SEASON!

I haven't done any rummaging yet but plan on getting out there on Thursday for the largest organized rummage. Last year the
Kingswood Rummage had over 289 rummages and I have a feeling that this year will be even bigger. The rummage use be held Friday through Sunday but his year it starts tomorrow (Tuesday) and ends on Sunday! The weather is suppose to be really nice and Crystal is my rummage buddy. We'll be out there early doing plenty of walking. (I usually need to take a couple of Tylenol before we head out and then a couple more when I get home.)

So onto my Metamorphis Monday item - I mentioned one of the things I've been busy with is we are replacing the carpet in the downstairs. We don't have a big house but you'd sure never know it by all the furniture moved to the garage. We were planning on the carpet being installed Wednesday & Thursday but they had a change in plans and said they could be here today. The new carpet isn't completely done yet but it was time to be replaced. Right now the carpet is laying in big pieces in each room and we noticed that the wall color clashes - guess it's time to paint!

Oh, and we decided that we don't like the couch (sofa) and so that's going to be sold and we'll be looking for a new one. One thing always leads to another...I love how that works!.

Here's some pics - once it's complete - I'll post more pictures.

Groucho follows me everywhere - he's in hiding now - today was scary for the kitties!

I can't get over how full the garage is...bet the neighbors think we're moving.

Porch Party - May 15th!

How I wished that we lived where it's warm, where the grass is green and flowers are blooming outside! The weather here is finally showing signs that spring might be here but you would never know by looking at our backyard

There's a blog that I read daily, Grits and Glamour and she posts weekly for Metamorphis Monday, What's On Your Wall Wednesday, Tablescape Thursday & Foodie Friday. Barb - Sorry if I didn't give you credit for all the posts you do.

Barb is going to be hosting a party on May 15th called Porch & Patio Party and if you participate you have the chance to win this...

We put an addition on the back of our house a couple of years ago to increase the size of our dining room and included a covered deck. And because I've been visiting Goodwill a lot, I'll be working to bring my backyard to life for the party!

I've got plenty of work to do, and maybe another trip or two to Goodwill??

Be sure to check out the Party and get ready to show off your backyard!

Metamorphis Monday - Pink Vintage Box

Happy Belated Easter!

Welcome again to a Metamorphis Monday hosted by "Between Naps on the Porch."

Last week, I couldn't seeem to figure out what to do with a wood box that I found at Goodwill.

I spray painted it white, didn't like - then spray painted it pink - I like, I like

I went back to my trusty Goodwill searching for a vintage picture - the picture that Iwanted there was gone the following day. Lesson learned - take item, plan later.

Later on during the week, I headed over to Target trying to find some sort of inspiration and I came across this scrapbook paper that looks like vintage postcards and it was exactly what I was looking for.

I got my "Modge Podge" out and glued on the scrapbook paper and let it dried..didn't quite like it so I tore it off and started again.

I love this little angel sleeping (Goodwill find)..

Because I had spray painted the box - pink, it was too shiny for what I wanted. I the box to look old and worn but I didn't have any glaze and I definitely didn't want to spend any more money. I decided to use what I had on hand - Old English oil made for hiding scratches.

I did a test area in the bottom and decided it might be a tad too dark so I added some water and keep mixing it together before applying to the box.

The box turned out really nice and I plan on putting this out on our covered deck to hold flowers and magazines.

Make sure to check out "Between Naps on the Porch." to see what others have been busy with.

French Entryway on a Budget

Last weekend, DH and I continued to work on our entryway to spruce it up. I've been hitting Goodwill more than I probably should and don't usually leave empty handed.

I did get to Hobby Lobby and found this amazing clock that I've looked at many time and decided at 50% off, it was too good to pass up any longer. And because I really like the wall decals, I also picked one up at Kohl's.

Most of my wall hangings are thrift items with the exception of a couple of bird hangings. Hobby Lobby actually had three different ones and I decided to just take two of them. Three days later I decided that I wanted that third one and when I went back, they were all gone.

But I'm still very happy with how it looks and will continue to add as I find things at bargain prices.

I've been in a little slump and can't seem to kick it in gear and work on all the projects that are waiting for me.

I bought this wood box and spray painted it white, decided that I didn't like it white so I spray painted it pink. I really like the pink but I'm stuck for how to complete it - it's too blah and I can't find any scrap book paper that I like, looked for a vintage picture and can't find that..Help??

Here's my projects all neatly stacked in the living room, I also have projects in the garage and in the office... I can't get motivated...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

HELP!

Horoscope - Ironic?

Just about every morning I read my horoscope in the daily paper. The weird thing is that alot of time it's very ironic of what is going on in my life.

Today, I am planning on staying home from Goodwill and not spend any money.
My action plan for today is:

# 1 - Get this book read...

It's due back today and not even half way through it.

# 2 - Watch a lot of TiVo....

I have too many shows to watch - The Real Wives of New York, 90210, Oprah & various shows from HGTV.

I'm actually excited to stay home and do these things and I believe my hubby might be even more excited.

So knowing this part, I read my horoscope(I'm a Leo) and here's what it said:

You'll enjoy being in your own space, especially if you're lucky enough to be there alone. It's comforting to be around the things you own. You'll even enjoy cleaning. Solitude refuels you.

Okay, maybe the horoscope is a little off - enjoy cleaning???

Have a nice Saturday!

Fat Free Gingersnap Cookies - Foodie Friday

Welcome to Foodie Friday hosted by Designs by Gollum every Friday.

My youngest daughter Ashley, is responsible for this recipe! She bakes these everytime she comes home for college and I wanted to share our favorite cookie with you.

Fat Free Gingersnaps

2 3/4 cups flour
1 tsp ground ginger
1 1/2 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/4 cups sugar
3/4 cups applesauce
4 Tbsp molasses

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix together flour, ginger, allspice & baking sode. Cream together sugar, applesauce and molasses. Add dry ingredients to wet and stir just until combined. Pur extra sugar inot a saucer or shallow dish. Roll dough into balls, a tablespoon at a time, then roll in sugar and place on sprayed/greased cookie sheet, flattening slightly. Bake 6 to 8 minutes for chewy cookies, 12 to 15 minutes to crispy.

Yummy - fresh out of the oven too!
