My Favorite Room Re-Do

and I'd like to share our master bedroom that we redid this past summer....

Our oak bedroom set that we've had for 10+ years that was looking a little dated.

And the standard TV in the bedroom....it was so big that nothing else could be on the dresser.

We sprayed on a cream laquer and glaze for a distressed look.

But firrst there was a lot of prep work - the taping took the longest but once that was done - things happened very fast.

Our end result! And we did this all over Memorial Day weekend!

The room is so bright and clean looking!

And no more TV, we miss it every once in awhile but I love having another surface to decorate!

The headboard was our starting point, I got the shutters from Craigslist and I already had the shelf.

We ended up painting our kitchen with the same laquer and glaze...but the bedroom is my favorite redo!

This weekend, we are in a winter storm watch so we'll be working on our living room and putting away the Christmas tree and decorationgs. I even spray painted a few things in preparation for the living room.

We hope the weather cooperates as we need to help move Michael. He recently accepted a job with a major accounting firm and is moving back to the area. (We're so happy to have him closer!)

Top Projects 2010

As 2010 comes to an end, it's time to reflect on what we've accomplished.

We painted our bedroom furniture and completely changed the look and feel of our master bedroom.

Over the 4th of July, we painted our kitchen cabinets....

2010 was a year that I really began to take outdated, thrifty finds and turn them into accessories for our home.

I shared how I turned Dollar Tree birds into mercury glass birds.

And despite this terrible picture, I shared our favorite low calorie night time snack.

DH and I made a hallway shutter shelf...we made this for less than $40.

I became obsessed with scrapbooking and making flowers from different materials.

My first scrapbook project, I made a recipe scrapbook for Ashley's sorority

and a fundraiser they were having.

(It sold for $65, crazy huh?)

The picture doesn't do it justice, it did turn out pretty nice.

Canning jars were really popular this year and I have two canning jars in the kitchen,
one for dish soap and another for hand soap.

And the best part of 2010 was that I turned 50 in July!

(When I was 16, 50 seemed so ancient- now that I'm there, it's no big deal!) 

DH and I went to Vegas and I got to see Donny Osmond!

(Wow - were our clothes wrinkled or what?)

As for 2011, I've got lots of projects lined up.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Another Mini Album!

Yesterday morning, I should've been doing other things - such as maybe picking up around the house, making some cookies, laundry or perhaps a shower. But instead of doing what I needs to be done, I started to put together a Christmas mini album.

And will finish it next week, once I have some pictures of our Christmas.

Christmas Tree Mini Album

In the past couple of months, I've become very interested in mini albums and there are so many cute scrapbook projects out there.

If you've never tried to make a mini album, it really is pretty easy and not very expensive. Let me show you my Christmas tree mini album.

The mini album is from the dollar bin at Michaels and I've picked up quite a few other shapes for future projects.

With all of the flowers that I made, the binder ring that came with it, is too small.

The front cover...I still need to add the word, FAMILY and it's done!

Isn't this reindeer so cute? In case you're wondering, the open areas are for the pictures...

And some more pages...I made a flower for each page.

The store bought flowers are so expensive. I just used scrapbook paper left

over from cutting out these trees.

I found out that I like pages that aren't real cluttered with things...the picture should be the focal point.

I love all of the Subway art, but I'm not computer savvy enough to make one. This one is free and so pretty!

She made these flowers, aren't they so frilly and the color is so soft and pretty.

She updated this chandieler - you'd never know that it didn't come this way!

And I've realized that she loves, loves glitter...lots of great projects and so sparkly!

You'll want to read her blog, she's got lots of great projects each week.

Would you ever guess this is made with wrapping paper?

And I almost forgot that she has a party ever Saturday with lots of participation...

Salt Dough Gingerbread Ornaments

My decorating theme in the kitchen is gingerbread, and this year I decided to make some salt dough gingerbread cookies. These are the kind that are not meant to be eaten but look good enough that you wished you could eat them.

I got my inspiration here.

I used glue and colored glitter for the frosting.

They smelled amazing when they were baking.

And I hung them up as a banner in my kitchen window.

I still need to spray on a protective coat so they'll keep for years to come.
If Christmas wasn't so close, I'd love to make some more shapes - very fun!
